Over 3,000 Attend Job Fair in La Pintada

A recruitment fair in La Pintada offered jobs at the Cobre Panamá mine. Over 3,000 applicants, mostly from the region, seek employment, highlighting the high unemployment issue.

The mayor of La Pintada, Ina Rodríguez, explained that most of the attendees at the recruitment drive were from the district and constantly submit their resumes to the Municipality to be considered; therefore, she supported the initiative. "We accepted the initiative because the lack of employment is quite significant in the area, it is one of the most pressing issues in the district," she stated in an interview with Panama América. 41.84% of attendees came from other areas of Coclé and the province of Colón, while the remaining 17.61% traveled from Panamá, Panamá Oeste, Veraguas, Herrera, and Chiriquí. The high attendance demonstrates that thousands of Panamanians recognize the labor and economic value of the mining project. The positions offered included preventive and corrective maintenance, industrial assurance, technical cleaning, environmental monitoring, and operational logistics. Additionally, 15% of the attendees were personnel with previous experience at the mine, reflecting confidence and the immediate availability of a trained workforce. Over 3,000 people participated on October 28 in the recruitment fair held in La Pintada, aimed at covering positions related to the Cobre Panámá Maintenance Plan. This distribution confirms that the mining operation is part of the country's broader economic fabric. Of the total attendees, 617 were residents of La Pintada, and together with those from Donoso and Coclesito, they represented 40.56% participation from the communities directly linked to the project. This massive attendance, in the opinion of the mayor of La Pintada, Ina Rodríguez, demonstrates that the unemployment rate in the region is "extremely high". This program aims to maintain installed infrastructure in optimal condition, protect machinery, secure operational areas, and preserve local technical capabilities while the future of the operation is being decided.
